In addition to our AJMF programming intern, we’ll add more video content to our social networks and website with the support of a dedicated video intern. Learn about JR Stein and Anthony Bello below.

JR Stein (AKA Vernon Oak) has been performing music since the age of thirteen and has performed around Atlanta, in venues such as The Masquerade, Centerstage, Sweetwater Festival, Steve’s Live Music, Taste of Alpheretta, 97.1 River Fest and many more. He runs a home studio where he records music for himself and other groups. Stein is deeply rooted in Jewish culture and is excited to work with AJMF on our Teen Open Mic series and other events this Fall and beyond.
Anthony Bello has always been interested in the film/music/media industry and believes working with AJMF this coming Fall would be a great way to get some hands on experience outside of high school. He has taken a Broadcast and Video Productions class for three years and has assisted with many school productions. Bello is experienced in editing, floor directing, camera operating and script writing and looks forward to contributing to AJMF’s online video presence.

Thanks to your generosity and support, AJMF finished the season strong with approximately $5600 in pledges and donations over the past four weeks. Nearly 40% of those resources were secured at Shark Tank, where our Director Russell Gottschalk kicked off the evening of philanthropy and fun.

Israeli saxophonist, Uri Gurvich will perform with his quartet at the 36th Annual Atlanta Jazz Festival at Piedmont Park on Monday (5 PM, International Stage). Beginning on Saturday, May 25, AJF features music from some of today’s most vibrant and innovative artists like José James, Meshell Ndegeocello, Julie Dexter, Rio Negro, Alexandra Jackson, and Tia Fuller.  National and international musicians will perform on two stages over the weekend and admission to the festival is FREE.

He has played at prestigious jazz festivals and venues in Europe, Japan and the US, including Lincoln Center and the Blue Note. Gurvich is an indemand saxophonist who won also acclaim as a leader with his debut, The Storyteller, which was released on John Zorn’s label – TZADIK records and features some of the most prominent voices on the contemporary New York jazz scene. The music places Israeli, Yemenite, East European and North African music into a progressive jazz context. In April 2013 Uri will release his second album for TZADIK records, BabEl, featuring his long time touring quartet and special guest multi-instrumentalist from Morocco, Brahim Fribgane on Oud and Percussion. The group will celebrate their release in a weeklong engagement at the downtown iconic venue The Stone and will follow with a U.S. tour.
